Update on Growing Our Ministry
After a lot of prayer, discussion, and listening, the Session of Christ the King has decided to move forward with the next phase of preparing for a campaign to grow our ministry. As you may remember, last year we invited the congregation to participate in a series of Focus Groups. Your insights, ideas, and hopes helped shape our understanding of what God is calling us toward – and what we heard was encouraging and unifying. As we considered expanding our campus facilities, we listened carefully to your hopes for our church. You shared a strong desire for Christ the King to remain Spirit-led, with Christ-centered biblical teaching. You shared the importance of staying community-minded – deepening relationships within our church family while continuing outreach to our community. And you affirmed your commitment to Christ the King being a place where all people feel welcomed.
At Christ the King, our vision is to Reach Houston for Christ and Renew Lives by Grace. That is why we are deeply committed to discipleship – following Jesus and helping others do the same. And one of the clearest expressions of discipleship is hospitality – how we engage and welcome our neighbors. As we create more room to welcome others, we also create more intentional opportunities to grow together in Christ and be formed more deeply into his likeness.
In response, our Building Committee has been working with a project manager and an architect to help us discern how our physical space can better support this vision. And our Capital Campaign committee has been working with a consultant firm called JD Klote and Associates to determine the feasibility and scope of our campaign. These brothers and sisters in Christ, under the guidance of our Session, have spent hundreds of hours discerning, praying, and seeking what the Lord has for us.
As we move forward into the next phase of the process, the campaign will look a little different than what you may be familiar with. In the months ahead, every household in our church will receive a personal visit from fellow church members. These visits are an opportunity to hear more about the vision and ask questions. More importantly, they are a chance to connect relationally—not just about buildings, but about how we’re living out our vision – sharing the good news of the gospel and making space for others to be renewed by God’s grace. We are committed to this process of engaging everyone at Christ the King in this important opportunity in the life of our church and this process will take some time.
In the meantime, here’s how you can be part of this process: Pray.
• Pray for our leadership to be wise and humble in this process.
• Pray for unity as we move through this season together.
• And pray for God to be glorified in all that we do.
